a sober man needs a reason to smile,
geeked on speed is a freed mind, indeed.
a sober man won't walk a mile, unless he gets a ribbon.
an amphetamine addict won't walk a mile (he'll memorize all the bus routes).
a sober man can make a plan, forget a plan, remember something else close enough and go on.
an amphetamine addict can make a plan, remember a plan, and keep a few dozen backup plans in mind (just in case [though, really, it depends on "the case", and every factor surrounding every circumstance constituting "the case", whatever the case may be]).
if necessary, a hundred-thousand (or so) micro-plans can be thought up before any sort of event. this, is pseudo-preparedness.
a sober man can communicate clearly and effectively, if properly trained. if untrained, a sober man can at least fall back on any number of the readily-available thousands of predefined cultural idioms and catchphrases {negating the need for conscious or meaningful thought and speech}.
an amphetamine addict has a higher chance of realizing this, at least insofar as "realization" can be recognized by the observer/thinker/unwitting-participant.
a sober man can go insane.
an amphetamine addict can go insane (in ways a sober man could never even fathom).

it should be noted, however, that a sober man generally feels little regret, and few signs of neurosis, upon leaving unfinished projects unfinished.
